A. Notifications
What kinds of notifications can I get?
With Nexia™ Home Intelligence, you can set your own preferences for the specific alerts you would like to receive. With an active Nexia account, the system can send text message and/or email alert notifications for:
- Door access (anytime anyone enters a door code)
- Tamper alerts (after someone has put the wrong code into you door X# of times)
- Bridge disconnect and reconnect notices (whenever your power or internet goes off or turns back on)
- Low battery reminders (when the batteries in your door locks are running low)
- Furnace filter change reminders
- Thermostat keypad changes
- Out-of-range temperature alerts
- Heating A/C Maintenance reminders
Do you get a notification when someone enters the home?
YES. You can select whether you would like a text notification sent to your cell phone and/or an email to your phone or computer notifying you what time the door was opened and which code was used to unlock the door.
Is there a record of who entered the home?
YES. The Schlage Home Keypad Lock will keep a log of times and codes used that you can access to see when someone has entered the home. The log is kept for 90 days.
What if I don’t want notifications, can I turn them off?
YES. Notifications are user selectable and can be turned ON or OFF as you desire.
What if I use a property manager? Is there a way to put 2 email addresses so both the owner and property manager receive email notifications?
Yes. You are able to send e-mail and text notifications to as many addresses and phone numbers as you need. This can all be managed from the My Mobile section, within the My Account tab in the Nexia Web Portal..
B. Security
Is this product any more or less secure than a regular deadbolt?
The Schlage Home Keypad Deadbolt is just as secure as a regular deadbolt. The big difference is you have more control over who can lock and unlock the deadbolt. Also, when someone uses the lock, Nexia can notify you what time the lock was operated and the code that was used.
Are codes more secure than keys?
Since you can create, activate and deactivate individual codes, they are actually more secure than keys which can be lost or duplicated.
Can someone guess my code?
Built-in security measures make it very difficult to guess someone's code. Once an incorrect code has been entered four times in a row, the Schlage Home Keypad Lock disables the keypad for 30 seconds. In the interim, an alert is automatically sent to you via text and/or email notifying you someone was trying to access your home. All of these measures make it very difficult for someone to stand at your door long enough to try and guess your code - remember, there are also 10,000 possible code configurations to chose from.
Can't someone see which buttons have been pushed repeatedly after they show wear from use?
NO. The keypad in all Schlage Home Keypad Locks is specifically designed and built to prevent this.
Can someone hack into the system and open my door?
Nexia™ Home Intelligence uses encryption technology to increase security. Via the web, Nexia incorporates SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protection. This is the same encryption used by the banking industry for financial transactions. In the home, as long as the Nexia Bridge is used, Nexia is also fully encrypted to the Schlage Home Keypad lock.
What if my home network itself is not secure? What is my security risk if I access the online user portal over an unsecured connection?
Nexia™ Home Intelligence utilizes industry standard protocols to encrypt communications. However, it is the responsibility of the consumer to exercise discretion and observe all safety measures that they deem necessary to prevent unauthorized access, misuse of passwords, or misuse of other information on their computers, network, or other equipment.
